Hello we drove to Bluff and got on a boat to Stewart Island. I was so exited wen we got there we went to the backpackers hotel to drop off are bags, Then we got fish and chips. We went to go get grossers. Then wen it got dark we went looking for kiwi but no luck.
More Details: We drove early morning from Kingswell campground through Invercargill and on to Bluff to catch the inter island ferry ran by ‘Real journeys’. Left the camper van behind and grabbed our bags. Prepped to do an overnight hike on Stewart Island as well. Smooth sailing – much to the chagrin of Jade who was hoping for a repeat of the treacherous crossing that we had the previous time we were touring around – with 8’+ swells. Arrived and settled into Stewart Island Backpackers in Oban town. Given our own room because there was the 3 of us. Nice place to stay. Stewart Island has very few vehicles. Is home to the Kiwi bird which we hope to see! Took a day walk around part of the island. Stopped for fish & chips snack. Went out at night to search for kiwi birds. It was raining. We weren’t having much luck so Steve checked on his phone to listen to a recording of what they may sound like and then you see on the people out looking for kiwi converging towards Steve. All with their red light headlamps in a hurry. We scedaddled out of there quickly in case it was to anger a serious bird person!
