Hike on Taranaki – New Plymouth

2/6/20

Arrived at start site for hike but parking lot full so redirected to another to do alternate hike. Hike was 90% plus of wood walkways and stairs. Jade and Steve counted the wood stairs on the way down and counted 3511! Glad I wasn’t counting!
Majority of hike was through dense foliage, bushes and fern trees which kept the sun off us. Near the end of our hike at a clearing, the weather was windy and cold with bouts of rain. Lots of fog obscured view of top of volcano. Total distance approximately 8 miles. Really pleasant hike. From this hut one can hike further on through trail system.

Midpoint of our hike. Can get in different trails here.
Hut for overnight stays. Ate lunch here.
