Opunake to New Plymouth

Departed Opunake and stopped to check out beach at Oakura on route. Again black sand beaches, big waves, windy, chilly water, people contemplating surfing and wind-sailing.
On to New Plymouth where we checked out downtown area, Steve got a major haircut, second back up key for campervan, etc.

Campground is on Fitzroy beach which has an excellent boardwalk along the ocean that runs for miles, past surf clubs, some beach snack bars and past downtown and various parks. Lots of bicycles, joggers, walkers, skateboards, etc. very active place.

Again the beach time being a big attraction as well as opportunity to hike nearby Mt Taranaki volcano.
